Yes, its been a while since I’ve made a post here. I’m aware I probably should be selling myself more, talking about fantastic deals that you all need my services for and so on and so on. But lets face it, the world has enough of that garbage. What we really all want is something a bit more real and less full of nonsense and maybe a laugh once in a while.
And that’s why I bring you quality posts like this one today!

So today I’m in the grocery store. Decided to stop at the attached cafe for some lunch and hit the washroom beforehand. When I walk into this:

Yep, some joker put a soccer ball hanging from a little plastic goal in the urinal. So the next question that comes to mind - Should I try to score a goal? I consult the oldschool Magic 8 Ball in my mind and it promptly comes up with...............”It is decidedly so” Super! Time to score points. You do all remember the Magic 8 Ball right??

Now I am aware that it’s totally uncool to use a camera phone in a public washroom for a whole lot of reasons. But this was just superb. I waited patiently for everyone to leave and quickly got these 2 shots.

Well, thats all for now StormTroopers. Signing off until the next big announcement!

Cheers!

What is Art?

OK, this is a heavy photo oriented blog today

Ohh the arguments that never end in life. One such eternal question....What is art?

An endless debate mostly of foolishness. But once in a while you see someone who tells it like it is! While this person may not explain what art IS....they certainly say what IS NOT art. I took this shot at Victoria Park Subway station today. I couldn’t agree more. As I have mentioned in previous blog entries I really like good graffiti art. I think its more on the pulse of whats going on in any given area.

Tagging however is NOT art in my opinion. It’s a stupid looking bunch of mish mash that says nothing. It’s about the same as a dog peeing on an area to mark its territory, but lacking the valid personal nature of the urine. Graffiti art takes skill and thought. But enough on my thoughts. Lets see what this person thinks. Don’t hold back now, tell us what you really think!

Now lets compare this piece of tagging stupidness, with some of Toronto’s better graffiti.

Nice! Now that’s art!!

Since we are the subject of not only graffiti, but the specific insult “douche” Lets carry on with that. This insult has been used as I recall since the 80s for certain. And has since been resurrected in the last couple of years again. Personally I always thought it was a hilarious insult.

So just who or what is a douche exactly, and how will you know if you see someone being one, or someone who just IS one?

This once Blockbusters customer seems to have the answer! I ran into this while going to grab a movie one evening, and found it funny enough to grab an image of it.

Well thats all for now! Like the critters. So many of them and nothing like anywhere else in Toronto. We started seeing these guys crossing our entranceway. HUGE slugs like we’d never seen before. So we looked them up. Turns out they are called “Leopard Slugs”. An invasive species from Europe. Go figure, just like almost ALL of us for that matter! This guy hangs out in our compost a lot. We call him “King Slug”. Notice this picture of him next to my finger to give an idea of how big these guys are!

Urban Humor

I love proper urban humor! So many versions of it of course and varying degrees of style. I am NOT a big fan of corporate brainwash style advertising. So anytime someone defaces one of those large billboards in a clever manner, I always try to get a picture of it.
In my opinion, if you really want to see the pulse of whats going on in any society...... ignore all the advertisement and televsion, and just look at the graffiti art, the walls, the things people post on newspaper stands, etc...

This one is a different brand. The classic “Post No Bills” sign anytime they are doing construction on the subway. I got this one at Castle Frank station one afternoon. How classic is this?! Two truly awesome bills. One can’t help himself with the ladies, the other can’t help being remembered for Jell-o pudding pops. Either way, its hilarious. I especially like the way they went through the trouble of using colour pictures cut out for this. No stencil based spray paint for these Bills.

Post no bills you say? Nonsense.......here’s Bill in your eye!

Where The Trail Ends

Although I’d love to have the $ to go to exotic places more often and go on bigger adventures............. Like my big climb to the birthplace of Quetzalcoatl in Mexico for example.
But let’s get real. The economy is not doing so hot, and sometimes you just have to be content with whats in your own backyard. Or at least close by. Not having a car anymore can make it even more challenging.
But one thing will always get me to find the best nature areas I can wherever I am. CYCLING. Something thats kept me invigorated since High School, and probably will until my legs fall off, or the Diabetes takes my feet. Whichever comes first.

I took this trail along the waterfront at the bottom of the bluffs. And like all trails, eventually they come to an end somewhere. But why do they have to end? Can’t you just make a new trail, and be a pioneer? Not always. Here’s why.

But I think you’ll agree its a stunning view! Here’s looking at the same place, but from the top looking down.

And of course....here’s your local trailblazer signing off!

Downtown Validation?

So I’m walking towards Dundas Square downtown one afternoon. And I look up at one of the ever growing, giant ad screens that pollute our minds above me. And what do I see here? It wasn’t up for long. But long enough for me to take this picture with the trusty Blackberry.

Not sure if you can really see it clearly in the image here. But I’ll give you a hint. Ever pirated a copy of Windows?

Eventually you’ll get the Genuine Advantage Validation “not passed” box message. At least until you crack it that is.

Right, so what am I getting at here? Simple....it proves that even large corporations are doing this. Who’s the company behind that monstrous screen running ads? How much money are they making from it? And they couldn’t just “buy” Windows for the lousy $300.00 or so?

At any rate, I found it funny as hell!

Finally OUT of the city.

Algonquin Park

After being knocked around in various circumstances over the years, I finally got the opportunity to get out of this madness to at least collect some thoughts. I’ve always found being in these settings much more “how it should be” anyhow. I miss rock climbing terribly, but really don’t dare anymore. So settled upon some time on the water. As well, we took a climb up Dorset Tower just for kicks. The view is pretty stunning! Not for the “scared of heights” crowd, but its worth it for the view if you can make it up.

After all these years, my Wisconsin roots are finally showing. I’d really much rather be in this setting and do this sort of activity on a regular basis, rather than once or twice a year. Living in Canada, we have the opportunity to experience all kinds of wonderful wilderness. Most of this country isn’t populated. So why do we all tend to congregate in Toronto, Vancouver, or Montreal? Granted much of it is uninhabitable, there are many places however that are the same climate as here or better. Hmmmmmmm.......
